Yes, our white moulding just needs a cover stain and it's ready to paint to match your home's aesthetic, or leave it white for a timeless look.

Dakota offers profiles for a variety of uses. With baseboard and casing options, choose craftsman moulding for a traditional, sturdy appearance or choose ranch moulding for a simple, complementary look. Other profiles include all-purpose trim, inside corner, outside corner, quarter round, and jamb legs.

If splicing is necessary, center the joint on a wall stud. Cut each end to opposing 45 degree angles and test fit before proceeding. Apply a small bead of construction adhesive, pre-drill and nail the joint through both pieces of moulding. Wipe off excess glue immediately.

Most room corners are 90 degrees, so most of your cuts will be made at a 45 degree angle. Though, always test fit before proceeding, as corners aren't always square.

Before installing, allow your moulding to acclimate to the room's temperature and humidity for at least 72 hours. If installing in a room with minor fluctuations in temperature and humidity, you can paint the ends of the moulding with color matched latex paint to lock out moisture.

Particle board is a cost-effective material that resists warping under controlled temperature/humidity conditions. A knot and crack free surface with a consistent thickness and size, it's easy to cut and drill for any project. Particle board is made with recovered fiber, and is an eco-certified composite for the sustainable use of wood fiber. For more information read our blog.

Particle board is easily cut with a high tooth count blade, typically 60-80 teeth minimum, for the cleanest cut. When cutting laminate or melamine, use a laminate/melamine blade for the smoothest edge finish, and always cut with the finished side toward the blade.

Deciding between laminated panels and melamine panels depends on the use and location. Melamine panels are typically more durable and scratch resistant, good for use in higher traffic areas.

Handi-panels have a multitude of uses, including built-in shelving, cabinetry, and DIY craft projects.

Dakota peel and stick edge banding is available in most finishes near shelving at Menards. Available in 3/4" width, use as is, or trim with an edge trimmer. Use it to protect the edges of shelves, Dakota closets, handipanels, and more. Shop edge banding.

These are best cleaned with non-abrasive cleaning pads and cleaning agents that do not contain solvents.

Spacing will vary based on chosen shelf thickness. For 3/4" shelf boards, place wall brackets every 24" or less. For 5/8" shelf boards, place wall brackets every 20" or less. For 1-1/8" shelf boards, place two brackets no more than 28" apart. Ensure wall brackets are installed into studs, if not possible, use drywall anchors to properly secure brackets to wall.

Dakota offers three styles of shelving to fit any space. The most popular style, often used to store and organize items in closets, basements, garages, and pantries is 3/4" thick and has edge banding on the front edge. Our decorative shelving is 5/8" thick and is fully finished on all edges, it is best for organizing and displaying items in living rooms, bedrooms, offices, and kitchens. Thick shelving is a higher end decorative shelf board with edge banding on all sides and 1-1/8" thick, use it in kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms, and offices. Each style has varying finish options, so pick the one that best fits your space.

Picking the right bracket depends on your needs, Menards offers a wide variety of brackets to coordinate with all Dakota shelving. When hanging shelves in areas with limited space, 7-3/4" or 11-3/4" deep shelves are best, use brackets that are 6"-8" deep and 8"-10-1/2" deep. 15-3/4" shelves are best for hanging clothes or storing items in closets and pantries, use brackets with depths of 10-1/2"-12". When space isn't an issue or you'd like to store large totes, use our 23-1/4" deep shelves, 19-1/4"-20" deep brackets are perfect for this.

The tools needed for installation depend on the brackets you choose. Typical installation requires a screwdriver or drill, screws, and a level. If installing into studs, a stud finder is helpful. If installing directly into drywall, drywall anchors are needed to properly secure the shelf to the wall. A pencil, tape, and a tape measure can help you line up and plan your installation.

A properly installed panel can hold up to 25 lbs per sq. ft., and up to 50 lbs per sq. ft. when using the 4' metal inserts.

DakotaTM offers a variety of slatwall options for any space. For regular use in the garage or laundry room, our laminate slatwall will be sufficient. For higher use areas like workshops and retail spaces, upgrade to our melamine slatwall, which has a tougher surface to resist scratches and wear.

Slatwall can be used to organize any interior space, best for the garage, workshop, and laundry room.

Our slatwall panels are easy to install with a drill, screws, and adhesive. A level, tape measure, and marking device will help with installation. Cutting panels to size is easy with a circular saw or jigsaw. Note: see installation instructions for proper installation.

It's best to use particle board stair treads in your home when covering them with carpet, or in unfinished spaces like basements or garages where they can remain unfinished or get painted.

Yes, if a tread becomes damaged it can easily be replaced. If the existing tread was installed with nails, you can slowly pry the tread from the stringer (there may be glue, so pry with caution). If the tread was installed with screws, you can remove those with a drill or cut them with a reciprocating saw.

Our treads and risers are easily cut to width with a miter saw or circular saw. Measure your staircase at the top, middle, and bottom to ensure the correct size. Start with a width larger than your staircase (42", 48", or 96"), and carefully cut each piece to length with a high tooth count blade (60-80 teeth). Ensure your cuts are square and test fit before installing.

Once you've cut your treads and risers, add a bead of construction adhesive to the top of the stringer before placing the tread. Take note of the stringer locations and secure it by driving a 3-inch finishing nail or wood screw through the top of the tread into the stringer. Ensure the fasteners are flush by using a nail set or countersinking the screws before installation. Repeat for the riser and continue to the next step. For more information read our blog.
