Spacing will vary based on chosen shelf thickness. For 3/4" shelf boards, place wall brackets every 24" or less. For 5/8" shelf boards, place wall brackets every 20" or less. For 1-1/8" shelf boards, place two brackets no more than 28" apart. Ensure wall brackets are installed into studs, if not possible, use drywall anchors to properly secure brackets to wall.
Dakota offers three styles of shelving to fit any space. The most popular style, often used to store and organize items in closets, basements, garages, and pantries is 3/4" thick and has edge banding on the front edge. Our decorative shelving is 5/8" thick and is fully finished on all edges, it is best for organizing and displaying items in living rooms, bedrooms, offices, and kitchens. Thick shelving is a higher end decorative shelf board with edge banding on all sides and 1-1/8" thick, use it in kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms, and offices. Each style has varying finish options, so pick the one that best fits your space.
Picking the right bracket depends on your needs, Menards offers a wide variety of brackets to coordinate with all Dakota shelving. When hanging shelves in areas with limited space, 7-3/4" or 11-3/4" deep shelves are best, use brackets that are 6"-8" deep and 8"-10-1/2" deep. 15-3/4" shelves are best for hanging clothes or storing items in closets and pantries, use brackets with depths of 10-1/2"-12". When space isn't an issue or you'd like to store large totes, use our 23-1/4" deep shelves, 19-1/4"-20" deep brackets are perfect for this.
The tools needed for installation depend on the brackets you choose. Typical installation requires a screwdriver or drill, screws, and a level. If installing into studs, a stud finder is helpful. If installing directly into drywall, drywall anchors are needed to properly secure the shelf to the wall. A pencil, tape, and a tape measure can help you line up and plan your installation.
